Orient Overseas Container Line
Ltd. (OOCL), announced that has signed a cooperation agreement
with Zhejiang International Maritime Professional Technology
College (ZIMC) to build an OOCL Maritime Academy,
scheduled towards the end of 2009. The academy is expected to
assist in the professional development and continuing re-education
for OOCL seafarers.
The cooperation agreement was signed on October
30, 2008 during the ZIMC annual Education Consultative
Conference held in Hangzhou, China. Managing Director of OOCL
(China) Ltd, Erxin Yao and General Manager of OOCL’s fleet
Management Department, SC Tai, jointly signed the agreement
with ZIMC President, Jack Wang.
The objectives of the cooperation are to promote the
important role of China in the global maritime industry,
to promote the role of safety, security and environmental
protection in global maritime shipping and to encourage
Chinese students to join the maritime industry as a career path.
