CHINA – TAIWAN
First direct maritime-airborne links since the civil war in 1949

Yesterday, Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou attended the first departure of the Evergreen’s vessel “Uni Adroit” from the port of  Kaohsiung, carrying 1,168 containers to the Chinese port of Tianjin. China celebrated, also the fist direct departures, since end of Chinese civil war in 1949. 

China and Taiwan have signed a historic agreement to establish regular direct connections among 11 ports of Taiwan and 48 ports of China, plus 15 fluvial ports, while 108 regular and charter flights will call the Taiwan–China’s airports every week.

The final agreement was signed on November 4, 2008 resulting talks between the two countries for almost 10 years.
