MSC Cruises (Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO) and STX France (Jacques Hardelay, general manager), announced the conclusion of the legal process that finalizes the order of a new Fantasia class cruise ship (technically called U32) of 140,000 gt, the 12th in the MSC Cruises fleet, to be delivered by the end of spring 2012.

The process began on Monday March, 1st with the signature of a letter of intent. An important factor to the success of the project was the financial backing provided by French financial institutions, and especially by Coface, the French Export Credit Agency.

The total investment for the construction of the new cruise-ship amounts to EUR 575m. The new-building, 23.7 knots speed, 333,3 meters long and 38 meters wide, will be able to accommodate 4,000 passengers in 1,751 cabins.

  • Mr. Hardelay said, "We look forward to continue the long-standing relationship between the teams of MSC Cruises and STX France for the successful delivery of this magnificent vessel".

  • Mr. Vago, said, "We are now keen to focus our energies on further enhancing MSC Cruises' leading positioning within the world's cruise industry."
